Shooting from Cover

“Every shootout is better with cover!”shooting from cover

When it comes to a gunfight, even more important than the skill of shooting is not getting shot. Way too often we teach people to shoot on the flat range without thinking about always taking cover.  Moving to cover and shooting from cover should be a part of all training, but unfortunately, most of the time it isn’t covered or emphasized.

The best way would be to teach beginners from the onset to shoot from behind cover. In this way we could teach to seek cover while drawing or firing instinctively. You should be training yourself every time you handle a gun, and if you stand out in the open when shooting drills, you are training yourself to stand out in the open when returning fire, an immobile and easy target.

The is to shoot from behind cover whenever possible and keep it a constant part of your training. If you do this right, you will feel uncomfortable when shooting out in the open on the flat range.  This is a good thing.  You should instinctively be looking to take cover and then return fire.

We found a really good video on using cover. Take a look at it and let us know what you think in the comments.
