How to Load and Unload a Revolver

Since we talked about loading and unloading a semi auto in the last post, we are continuing along with how to load and unload a revolver.magnum calibar handguns

This post is for informational use. You need to get hands on training with any gun. I freely admit I don’t have a lot of experience with double action revolvers and no experience with single action.  If you have any videos or tips, tell us about them in the comments and I can add them to this post.

Single Action Revolvers

Single action means that you have to pull the hammer back with your hand or thumb every time you want to fire a shot (cock it and then pull the trigger.)

First of all, single action revolvers take additional care.  The older ones don’t have safeties and you have to carry them on an empty chamber. Like all guns, make sure you find someone to teach how to use them safely.

Double Action Revolvers

Double action means when you pull the trigger it cocks the hammer and then fires the pistol (albeit very quickly). For a revolver this must be done for every shot. Most double action revolvers can also be fired in single action mode as well. Double action revolvers tend to have swing out cylinders.
